"Jonathan, did it work as well if you've got clothes on?"
Not fully. Roughly half of what a panel emits is near-infrared you can’t see, and that part passes through fabric. The visible red does not: “The red won’t go through.” Bare skin gets the whole dose.

Why this episode happened
Light Came Before the Sun. Your Cells Never Forgot.
Russell’s real question wasn’t about a gadget. It was about how people — and eventually whole communities — look after their own health without depending on the system that profits from their sickness. Jonathan’s answer started where his research starts: “you definitely need to be doing things that get you out of that system.” Nearly everything that attacks the body attacks its energy supply, the mitochondria. So you go two ways at once: clear the toxins out, and fortify what’s left. In his words, “you make your body like a shield and you’re doing that through voltage.”
Knowing how much faith matters to Russell, Jonathan went further back than biology. In Genesis, let there be light comes before the sun and moon are made on the fourth day. Malachi 4:2 describes the sun of righteousness rising with healing in his wings — and Jonathan’s reading is that “wings” can translate as projections, or wavelengths. Whatever you make of the theology, the biology is not in dispute: your mitochondria carry light receptors, and certain shades of light are particularly good at producing stem cells in your bones and your gut.

CD34+ cells are hematopoietic stem cells, the body’s master repair cells.
